Al Shaheed Park is Kuwait City's most beautiful and culturally significant park — a 200,000 square metre green space in the heart of the city, opened in 2015, with two extraordinary museums, a butterfly house, an amphitheatre, and extraordinary views over the Arabian Gulf. The park is dedicated to the memory of Kuwaiti martyrs and has the Kuwait Pavilion — an extraordinary contemporary building housing the Museum of Kuwaiti History and the Museum of Science and Natural History. The park is the most pleasant outdoor space in Kuwait City and a showcase of contemporary Kuwaiti landscape design.

Failaka Island is one of the most historically extraordinary places in the Gulf — a 12 square kilometre island in Kuwait Bay with Bronze Age settlements (3rd millennium BC), a Greek temple and fort from the time of Alexander the Great (4th century BC), and a ghost town abandoned during the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait (1990–91). The island was a major trading post on the ancient sea routes between Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley. The Greek ruins — including a temple dedicated to Artemis and a fort — are the most significant Greek archaeological remains in the Gulf region. The abandoned town — left exactly as it was when the Kuwaiti population fled the Iraqi invasion — is one of the most eerie and moving sites in the Middle East.
